The Jazz Connection series explore the world of jazz and its influences on many musical styles including rock ‘n’ roll, blues, calypso and Latin American music. Book 3 consists of seven performance pieces written for the early intermediate level student.
Purpose: Book 3 corresponds with Jazzabilities Book 3. Jazzabilities is a series that helps build a jazz vocabulary through short exercises and performance pieces. Jazz Connections reinforces this vocabulary through these entertaining pieces.
Suggestions for Instruction: Students who haven’t studied jazz will still recognize many of the rhythms and hand positions used in this book. However, triplets and swing-8ths are used extensively throughout. Patience must be applied to make sure these rhythms are learned accurately.
